This has been a most colorful fall and I hope you’ve had an opportunity to get out and enjoy the splendor! With just weeks before Thanksgiving, it’s a great time to take stock of how fortunate we are and all that we have to be thankful for. Whatever your family tradition may be, take time to give thanks for all that you hold dear, and with Veteran’s Day approaching, this includes thanking our service men and women for all that they have sacrificed and endured to provide us with the freedoms we have today.
Just as you may have much to give thanks for, there are those around us who are in need this holiday season. To help meet the needs of our community, Carol Sweitzer in our Customer Service department is once again heading up Jennings’ annual canned food drive. Give a donation of three cans of food to our technician when he visits your home for a service call anytime before November 19th and receive a one-time $5 discount off of your bill. Your canned food donations are supplied to the Akron Canton Food Bank through the WKDD collection station and help to provide a filling Thanksgiving dinner for those who might not otherwise have it. Last year we managed to collect 661 cans of food and our target this year is 800 cans. Please help us reach our goal and donate your canned goods!
Fall is certainly in the air-leaves are beginning to change, mornings are crisp and cool, and everywhere you go the flavors and colors of fall are bursting at the seams. The changing of seasons brings something new to enjoy, so be sure to get out with family and friends to take part in the festivities! Speaking of change, we have made some updates to our website that you may find interesting, including this month’s specials and coupons. When you get a chance, check them out here.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our customers, for letting us know how we are doing. Whenever I look at our employees and think of how long I have known these hard working individuals, I always remind them that they are the “Jennings Heating” that our customers see. This year you let us know that you saw great things as we received an A+ rating from both Angie’s List and Better Business Bureau. Thanks for your vote of confidence. We don’t often receive complaints, but when we do we take the opportunity to train and improve, so please continue to let us know how we’re doing.
Thoughts of this year’s brutal winter are finally beginning to fade- the sooner the better! Once the weather is good in Ohio it’s very, very good.
With the recent spring showers and storms, we have received a lot of interest in our whole house surge protectors. When our technician is visiting your home to perform regular maintenance (don’t forget to change those filters!) he can install a surge protector to help protect your home against a lightning strike. This device will shut off power to your appliances, protecting items such as your refrigerator, TV, air conditioner etc. should your home be struck by lightning. As our home appliances have become more efficient and packed with technical gadgets, they have also become more susceptible to power surges and more expensive to repair. There’s good and bad news here-the bad news is that once lightning strikes, the protector will need to be replaced (which may be several hundred dollars), the good news is that if this happens you will have saved thousands of dollars in appliance repairs or replacements. Call our office for information about our whole house surge protectors. You may even want to explore a backup generator in case of a power failure. Continue reading →
This very cold winter will make spring, when it finally arrives, even sweeter! However, there is an upside to all this cold weather; Stink bugs are bugging out! According to a study done by Virginia Tech, the stink bugs, which come mostly from China and are aptly named for the foul odor they give off when squashed, can’t take the extreme cold. If you haven’t yet made the acquaintance of these pesky pests consider yourself lucky.
Emerging wireless technologies are now trending in the heating and cooling industry and I think you are going to enjoy some of the applications available to you. Did you know that you can now set, adjust and monitor the temperature in your home through a thermostat that communicates with your smart device (phone or tablet)? Once the thermostat is installed, an app can be downloaded onto your smart device that will allow two-way communication between your home thermostat and the device running the application. Not only will you be able to control your home environment from your smart device, but the thermostat will alert you (via the app) if:
The temperature in your home drops or rises above levels you have set
The filter becomes dirty
The system detects any error codes within your heating and cooling system Continue reading →
The holidays are just around the corner, filled with friends, family, hot wassail, loads of turkey and perhaps the not so welcome winter chill. Forecasters are predicting a frigid winter this year for the Great Lakes region, which includes our great state of Ohio. When preparing your winter “to do” list you might want to add the following items (not so much fun as prudent):
Check the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide Detector– This little plug-in device can literally be a life saver. Carbon monoxide can occur from any fuel burning appliance in the home, including furnace, hot water tank, stove, fireplace and even the car in an attached garage.
Have your furnace cleaned and checked– A properly tuned system can reduce your home’s operating costs up to 10% during the winter season. Continue reading →
Fall — a time that brings with it apple cider, visits to pumpkin patches, bonfires and anticipation of the holidays ahead. For any sports fans the season is full of promise; the Indians made the playoffs, after a rocky start the Browns have won two games in a row and the Buckeyes have the longest undefeated streak of any major college football team. Life is good.
In the midst of these activities, it’s important to prepare the equipment in your home for cooler weather before the leaves change, a maintenance measure that will ensure you’re nice and warm as the temperature continues to drop. Many of our customers get ready for fall with a furnace or boiler tune-up. It’s also important to remember to change your furnace filter before the heating season begins. Each year around this time your humidifier should have a new pad installed as well to prevent mineral buildup that can make it inoperable. If the “Farmer’s Almanac” prediction is accurate, we may be facing a very cold winter. Prepare now so that you can comfortably enjoy all that the season brings Continue reading →
It’s hard to believe that September is already here! No complaints though, Fall is one of my favorite times. This past summer (hot at times and also very wet) was still very enjoyable. I’m thankful for all the hard work and long hours our employees put in to help you, our customers, stay comfortable. At Jennings Heating, we are all responsible to deliver the highest quality in all the services we provide to you. One of the best investments Jennings Heating and Cooling has ever made was building our training center. Continue reading →
Your heating, ventilation and air conditioning or HVAC maintenance should be done by a professional for a number of different reasons.
First and foremost, the system consists of far more than just the mechanical part that you see. There are additional parts, including the many, many feet of ductwork. It is that ductwork that can be the hardest to properly maintain simply because it is impossible to get to without the proper tools. Continue reading →
For those who are unsure, HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning, typically one of the major considerations in a new home purchase or in an upgrade project. (Click Here to learn more about HVAC) We need to know that the air in our home is clean and safe for breathing, especially if there are young children or elderly people living there. That is why it is important to consider the ventilation capabilities of the home.
We also need to know that there will be warmth in the winter months and the ability to keep cool in the summer. Northeast Ohio is known for some wild weather changes, especially in the transitional months where the weather can change seemingly by the hour. Continue reading →
How important is it to choose a great heating company? Well, consider this: how important is your heating system to your family’s comfort? Northeast Ohio is famed for some serious weather changes, leaping from one temperature extreme to another without warning and usually all in the same day. One night without a working furnace is typically enough for most people to endure. But, choosing the wrong heating company can cause more than some discomfort- it can really hurt the family’s finances as well. Continue reading →
