April Brings Sunshine & Preseason Specials

Put away the snow blower and get out the gardening tools! April is here and it’s great to see kids outside playing and folks out exercising (some run- I walk…fast). This rough winter will make the bloom of spring that much sweeter!

As warmer weather sets in be sure to get your cooling system ready for summer. A preseason air conditioning check will ensure that your system is ready for the humid days ahead. Your air conditioner transfers indoor heat to the outside by removing warm air from your home as it’s drawn across the coils in your AC unit, resulting in the cool, comfortable temperature you’ve come to expect. For this transfer to be efficient, the coils in your outdoor unit need to be professionally cleaned. Don’t wait until the hot weather is here to call for your air conditioning check. Call now and take advantage of our preseason special! Continue reading

Saying “Farewell” to Stink Bugs, “Hello” to Wireless Thermostats &“Congratulations” to Jennings Staff!

This very cold winter will make spring, when it finally arrives, even sweeter! However, there is an upside to all this cold weather; Stink bugs are bugging out! According to a study done by Virginia Tech, the stink bugs, which come mostly from China and are aptly named for the foul odor they give off when squashed, can’t take the extreme cold. If you haven’t yet made the acquaintance of these pesky pests consider yourself lucky.

control hvac system through phoneEmerging wireless technologies are now trending in the heating and cooling industry and I think you are going to enjoy some of the applications available to you. Did you know that you can now set, adjust and monitor the temperature in your home through a thermostat that communicates with your smart device (phone or tablet)? Once the thermostat is installed, an app can be downloaded onto your smart device that will allow two-way communication between your home thermostat and the device running the application. Not only will you be able to control your home environment from your smart device, but the thermostat will alert you (via the app) if:

  • The temperature in your home drops or rises above levels you have set
  • The filter becomes dirty
  • The system detects any error codes within your heating and cooling system Continue reading

Anticipating Spring!

Well, just a little over a month till spring! I am already planning out my garden in anticipation. I think after the winter we’ve had we should give ourselves a pat on the back for being hardy Ohioians and making it through an old-fashioned bone chilling winter.

whole house generatorThough we’ve been plunged into sub zero temperatures and thick snow or ice, some Jennings customers were prepared for the worst this year with the installation of a whole house generator. This means that should the lights (and heat) go out, these customers’ homes would remain bright and warm.

An outage of several hours usually isn’t a huge problem; you may light some candles, grab a few blankets and play board games until the power kicks on again. However, should the power outage continue for days, the resulting circumstances could be catastrophic. My daughter and son-in-law were without power for 10 days after the “Derecho” a few years ago. After one-week food was scarce, security was minimal and the temperature was unbearable. Continue reading

“The Farmer’s Almanac” has predicted that this would be a cold winter and I must say I don’t know how they know these things, but they were right! These are some of the coldest temperatures we’ve seen in years. Continue reading

From all of us at Jennings to all of you, have a blessed and Merry Christmas

I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving! In the spirit of giving and thanks, let me say “hats off to you!” for coming through for those in need last month during our “Long Haul against Hunger” drive. Your efforts, combined with those of our staff, resulted in a total collection of 642 cans of food-and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will be doubling all donations! We’d like to extend a big thanks to WKDD as well for sponsoring the program and to Carol Sweitzer, Sales Coordinator, Jennings Heating, for championing this project.

Another charitable giving effort that we are glad to be part of is “Milk & Honey Ministries,” headquartered in Akron. One of our fine technicians, Jeff Smith, volunteers his time serving as a minister for Milk & Honey and preaches to those who attend. He and his wife Karen serve up to 100 hot meals as well as supply clothes to those who are in need on any given Sunday. Milk & Honey is always in need of winter clothing items (sweaters, coats, gloves, etc.) so if you or anyone you know has clothing they would like to donate to this life saving organization there is a bin located in our office where these items can be dropped off. The holidays are just around the corner, and that means winter is too. Important items to add to your winter preparation list.

The holidays are just around the corner, filled with friends, family, hot wassail, loads of turkey and perhaps the not so welcome winter chill. Forecasters are predicting a frigid winter this year for the Great Lakes region, which includes our great state of Ohio. When preparing your winter “to do” list you might want to add the following items (not so much fun as prudent):

  • Check the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide Detector  This little plug-in device can literally be a life saver. Carbon monoxide can occur from any fuel burning appliance in the home, including furnace, hot water tank, stove, fireplace and even the car in an attached garage.
  • Have your furnace cleaned and checked  A properly tuned system can reduce your home’s operating costs up to 10% during the winter season. Continue reading

We seem to be off to an early start for cool fall weather.

Fall — a time that brings with it apple cider, visits to pumpkin patches, bonfires and anticipation of the holidays ahead. For any sports fans the season is full of promise; the Indians made the playoffs, after a rocky start the Browns have won two games in a row and the Buckeyes have the longest undefeated streak of any major college football team. Life is good.

In the midst of these activities, it’s important to prepare the equipment in your home for cooler weather before the leaves change, a maintenance measure that will ensure you’re nice and warm as the temperature continues to drop. Many of our customers get ready for fall with a furnace or boiler tune-up. It’s also important to remember to change your furnace filter before the heating season begins. Each year around this time your humidifier should have a new pad installed as well to prevent mineral buildup that can make it inoperable. If the “Farmer’s Almanac” prediction is accurate, we may be facing a very cold winter. Prepare now so that you can comfortably enjoy all that the season brings Continue reading

We have great people. An inside look at our training center.

It’s hard to believe that September is already here! No complaints though, Fall is one of my favorite times. This past summer (hot at times and also very wet) was still very enjoyable. I’m thankful for all the hard work and long hours our employees put in to help you, our customers, stay comfortable. At Jennings Heating, we are all responsible to deliver the highest quality in all the services we provide to you. One of the best investments Jennings Heating and Cooling has ever made was building our training center. Continue reading

Bucking the Trend This Summer

Well, we are half way through the summer and we finally have caught a break from the heat and humidity. June through the middle of July was hot and wet and the garden (and weeds) took off! Our warmest day was July 17th (95 degrees).  The average daily high was 88 degrees.  With the cool down here at the beginning of August, we can enjoy the Ohio weather. When it’s good it’s great!

With all that rain last month, a number of our customers have had flooded basements and several have even been flooded out twice! Many wet basements had damaged furnaces and hot water tanks. Continue reading
